"Out of Sight, Out of Mind : The Hidden Culture" was a major show exploring the experiences of the nursing home population.
The show, which included paintings, installation, photography, video and poetry, was extremely well received and quickly became a "must see" for the nursing community and anyone interested in how we care for our elderly.
Teachers brought their classes, state officials visited and more than a few people were brought to tears.
The show highlighted the innate dignity of our elders as well as the institutionalization which tends to dehumanize them.
Some comments from visitors:
"This is one of the most provocative exhibits I have ever seen. It should be required viewing for all nursing home employees!"
"WOW! Thank you so much. This made me cry."
". . . . inspiring and overwhelming"
